ISLS Book Publication Initiatives

Since it was established in 2002, the International Society for Language Studies has grown rapidly as a world-wide organization of volunteers, scholars and practitioners committed to critical, interdisciplinary, and emergent approaches to language studies. Along with the annual conference and journal, Critical Inquiry in Language Studies, ISLS publications seeks to strengthen this mission by:

  • Looking at language as both shaping and being shaped by historical, political, social, and cultural contexts
  • Exploring the relationships among language, power, discourses, and social practices
  • Bridging arbitrary disciplinary territories through unique and emergent study and practices
  • Providing a forum for both theoretical and empirical research, from existing and emergent research methodologies
  • Initiating innovative ways to publish and disseminate the work of scholars, activists, educators, policy makers, artists, and others to a world-wide forum

ISLS Publications initiatives are designed to feature seasoned practitioners and scholars, as well as fresh new talent from around the world. Though not always in the mainstream and, perhaps, controversial, these publications are supported by grounded research and peer review. ISLS strives to sustain and strengthen the field of language studies. We invite you to browse our series initiatives, examine and purchase these publications from the over 10,000 international bookstores, venders, and on-line services (amazon.com, barnesandnoble.com, borders.com, and others), and to consider publishing your work with us.
