Proposal Submission Procedures and Timelines

General procedures and timelines, from development of a volume proposal to publication of a work, follow this pattern.
  1. In consultation with the Director of Publications and the series Advisory Board, volume titles and series contributions are discussed on an on-going basis for development and publication throughout the year.
  2. Series contributions may develop as a result of an Advisory Board call for proposals or an unsolicited manuscript submission.
  3. A Memorandum of Agreement is signed by an ISLS representative, the Editor and/or all authors contributing to the work. This memorandum outlines responsibilities and a schedule for drafts, revisions, style requirements, and preliminary layout of the work leading to the contract and publication phase. The memorandum official recognizes the work as “accepted and in development” by the International Society for Language Studies.
  4. Upon receipt of the completed first draft of the work, a contract is signed by an ISLS representative, the Editor and/or all authors contributing to the work. The contract finalizes all responsibilities and production dates leading to publication of the book. The contract officially recognizes the work as “accepted and in production” indicating a specific publication year and ISBN number.
Depending on the series and specific work, procedures and timelines may vary.
